Canceled ‘Scoob! Holiday Haunt’ Film Gets Finished Anyway

The scheduled Scooby Doo film, Scoob! Holiday Haunt, has been completed, despite being cancelled by Warner Bros. Discovery. The film was near completion when the axe came down on the project, having only the film’s score to complete. As the music department had already been paid for their efforts, they chose to just go ahead and finish the job.

The cancelation came as part of the newly-merged studio’s efforts to save money and place focus on theatrical releases over streaming, joining a long list of scorched-Earth cancellations. Unfortunately, those who had hopes of Scoob! Holiday Haunt, or the similarly shelved Batgirl, eventually seeing the light of day are in for some disappointment. The cancelled films cannot be officially distributed until the studio reimburses the government for the tax write-off it received for them.

The movie, a prequel to 2020’s Scoob!, depicts a younger Scooby-Doo spending his first Christmas with a 10-year-old Shaggy at Fred’s Uncle Ned’s resort, according to a previously published synopsis. Naturally, they run into a ghostly puzzle that needs to be solved while there, and they do it all while teaching Scooby-Doo the true spirit of Christmas.

Director Tony Cervone went to Instagram to announce that they had completed the project, stating, “Well, we finished this thing today. A bittersweet conclusion for sure. I really hope you get a chance to see it somehow. It’s a good one. I want to congratulate the directors @mkurinsky and @bill.haller for doing an outstanding job. They understand the characters, comedy and spooky thrills so well. Thanks to @dinipaul for writing it with me. Thanks to @meferm for producing it with me. Thanks to our head of story @duseybear and our Director of Layout @swc90046, and to @terryhan_ for keeping me somewhat on time. And thank you to our wonderful, wonderful gang – @iain, @mckennagraceful, @ariana_greenblatt, Pierce Gagnon and the one and only Frank Welker. Every minute with you was a pleasure.”
