‘Bridgerton’ Makes Netflix History By Becoming the Biggest Series Ever

Bridgerton shattered Netflix viewing records making it the biggest series ever for the streaming giant.

Shonda Rhimes’ Regency Era romantic drama has been watched by 82 million people since its premiere on December 25, 2020. That accounts for 41% of Netflix’s global audience meaning that nearly every other person who logs into Netflix is either watching or has already seen Bridgerton.

In less than a month since its premiere, the 8-episode series surpassed that of the premiere of Netflix’s Witcher which previously attracted 76 million viewers within 28 days. Also in less than a month since its premiere, Bridgerton has already been renewed for a second season.

Bridgerton is based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling book series of the same title that follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and her marriage to the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page). Like any Shonda Rhimes series, the show is no stranger to forbidden romance, scandal, heartbreak, lustrous passion, and of course, shocking twists.
