How I Met Your Father, a sequel to the series How I Met Your Mother, has been ordered at Hulu with Hilary Duff set to star.
The spinoff of the long-running CBS comedy is a straight-to-series order from creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger who serve as co-showrunners on This Is Us and Love, Victor.
The 10-episode order will follow Sophie (Hilary Duff) who is telling her son the story of how she met his father. The story will begin in 2021 where Sophie and her close group of friends are figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.
“We are beyond excited to be bringing ‘How I Met Your Father’ to Hulu,” said Aptaker and Berger. “Carter and Craig’s iconic original series revolutionized the half-hour comedy, and we are so honored to be carrying the torch forward for the next generation – and with Hilary Duff no less!”
Back in 2014, How I Met Your Mother creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays wrote a pilot for CBS with Emily Spivey attempted titled How I Met Your Dad. The show starred Greta Gerwig, Drew Tarver, and was narrated by Meg Ryan. Ultimately, the project was never picked up.

(Thanks to all the ‘HIMYM’ fans out there who waited for it.)”
How I Met Your Mother aired on CBS for nine seasons producing over 200 episodes from 2005-2014. The series starred Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel, and Alyson Hannigan. Bob Saget served as the narrator, an older version of Radnor’s character Ted Mosby, who was telling his children the story of how he met their mother.
