Jim Carrey is in talks to star in a live-action “The Jetsons” film at Warner Bros. Pictures to be directed by Colin Trevorrow.
Joe Epstein and Trevorrow, who most recently directed “Jurassic World Dominion,” are negotiating to develop the screenplay. Storyline details were not readily available.
The 1990 cartoon “Jetsons: The Movie” was the final “Jetsons” feature film. The well-known family animation property, which debuted in 1962, has made multiple attempts at a live-action adaptation throughout the years. The average nuclear family that just so happens to live in space is recognizable to many generations of viewers thanks to the series’ multiple revivals in the 1970s and 1980s.
Carrey’s most recent roles were in “Sonic the Hedgehog” and its two sequels. Although he has a lengthy history of portraying well-known characters, including the Grinch in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” he hasn’t been on screen as much in recent years.
Trevorrow helmed “The Book of Henry,” “Jurassic World,” and the independent film “Safety Not Guaranteed” prior to “Jurassic World Dominion.”
