“Hamilton” Star Lin-Manuel Miranda May Join “Mary Poppins” Sequel

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator and star of the hit Broadway musical Hamilton, is in talks to join Emily Blunt in Disney’s Mary Poppins sequel. The sequel, to be based on the sequels of the original Mary Poppins books by PL Travers, will focus on the now grown-up Jane and Michael Banks, whose personal loss prompts the return of the original Super Nanny, played by Blunt. Miranda would play Poppins’ lamplighter friend.

The film will will be directed by Rob Marshall (Into the Woods, Chicago). While both Blunt and Miranda are incredibly talented, following in the footsteps of Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke is a taunting task to say the least. Mary Poppins grossed $100 million at the box office, and earned five Oscars, including one for Andrews as best actress.
