Gremlins 3 has been greenlit by Warner Bros., with a November 2027 release set.
David Zaslav, CEO and president of Warner Bros. Discovery, announced on Thursday’s investor call that the movie has been added to the Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group’s November 19, 2027 release schedule.
Zaslav stated that Chris Columbus, the director of “Harry Potter,” will direct and produce “Gremlins 3,” with Steven Spielberg returning as executive producer. All other information, such as a synopsis of the story and the names of the film’s actors, has not been made public.
The Gremlins franchise began with Joe Dante’s 1984 horror-comedy Gremlins, produced by Steven Spielberg. The film follows a small-town outbreak of mischievous, reptilian creatures born from a cuddly Mogwai named Gizmo. Blending dark humor, creature effects, and holiday satire, the movie became a major hit, grossing over $212 million worldwide and cementing itself as a pop-culture staple. Its mix of cute and frightening imagery also helped spark public concern over violence in “family” films, contributing directly to the creation of the MPAA’s PG-13 rating later that year.
A sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990), also directed by Dante, took a more self-aware and satirical approach, with Gremlins overrunning a media megatower in New York City. Though less successful commercially—earning around $41 million—it grew into a cult favorite for its anarchic humor and inventive creature designs.
The franchise expanded further with Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, an animated prequel series premiering in 2023, exploring Gizmo’s origins in 1920s China.
