Sam Raimi Confirms New “Evil Dead” Film

In a Reddit AMA to promote the new Grudge remake, Sam Raimi was asked if we were going to get a final Sam Raimi directed Evil Dead movie, to which Raimi responded:

“Bruce, Rob and I are working with a young filmmaker who is writing a new Evil Dead story that he will direct. As for me…. I would love to direct a new Evil Dead movie… but I’d really like to do it with Bruce. And he says he’s retired the character. I hope not.”

Raimi previously hinted at a new Evil Dead film to be produced by Bruce Campbell at this years’ New York Comic Con. Raimi and Campbell have always said that the reason that they never made a fourth film in the franchise was because they were never that profitable to begin with. They proved a reboot could be financially successful with the 2013 Fede Álvarez directed remake, which earned $97.5 million with a $17 million budget, though the reviews were only luke warm. Raimi, Campbell and Rob Tapert  gave the fans what they wanted by way of the Ash vs Evil Dead series on STARZ, which gave us more Ash than we had hoped for. Unfortunately, viewership waned and the series was cancelled after three seasons, at which point Campbell announced he was retiring from the character.

Look, we are HUGE fans of Evil Dead here at Film Dumpster. In fact, it was our mutual love of the franchise that was the very foundation of the website, That said, we think Sam, Bruce and everyone else that has brought us the Deadites have given us enough. We think it’s selfish to keep asking for more. That said, we’ll be first in line for a new film.
