Reynolds to Develop and Star in “Clue” Remake

After the wild success of Deadpool, 20th Century Fox signed star Ryan Reynolds and his Maximum Effort production company to a three picture deal. It’s being reported that the first film will be a live action adaptation of the Hasbro board game “Clue.” Reynolds is said to be starring, with the  Deadpool writing team of Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese set to pen the script.

“Clue” was previously made in to a film in the now classic 1985  adaptation starring Tim Curry and an all star cast. Mr. Boddy (Lee Ving) invites six strangers to a dinner party, where it is revealed they are all being blackmailed by their host. The game’s characters Mrs. Peacock (Eileen Brennan), Miss Scarlet (Lesley Ann Warren), Mr. Green (Michael McKean), Professor Plum (Christopher Lloyd), Mrs. White (Madeline Kahn) and Col. Mustard (Martin Mull) are all present, as his Tim Curry’s Wadsworth, the manic butler who heads up the investigation of who killed Mr. Boddy after he is mysteriously murdered. The film has become a comedy classic, thanks primarily to Curry’s brilliant comedic performance, easily one of the best of his career.

There is no word if this will be a remake of the original film, or a new version based solely on the game. While the original Clue was successful (at least in terms of quality), other attempts of turning a board game into a film have not been (looking at you, Battleship), so this could be a gamble. Not to mention, the original was pretty damn great to begin with, so it may be tough to beat, though the combination of Reynolds, Wernick and Reese may just be the answer. Reynolds can be seen in the Deadpool sequel on May 18, 2018.
