Michael Shannon is set to star as the villain in a supernatural Cold War romance from writer/director Guillermo del Toro. The film is being described as a “mysterious and magical journey set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America circa 1963, with an otherworldly love story at its center.” Previous reports had the story revolving around the discovery of a merman on a laboratory. The film will also star Sally Hawkins (Jane Ayre, Great Expectations, Paddington), Octavia Spencer (The Help, Black or White), and Michael Stulhbarg (Steve jobs, Trumbo).
