Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska cast as new “Charlie’s Angels”

Sony has announced that Kristen Stewart , Naomi Scott (star of  Disney’s upcoming Aladdin remake), and British newcomer Ella Balinska will be portraying the titular characters in their upcoming Charlie’s Angels reboot. Elizabeth Banks, who will be playing Bosley, will direct and produce the film. This is a statement about the film released by Banks:

“Charlie’s Angels, for me, is one of the original brands to celebrate the empowered woman since its debut in the ’70s. This film honors the legacy of Charles Townsend and his agency while introducing a new era of modern and global Angels. I couldn’t be more excited to work with Kristen, Naomi and Ella to bring this chapter to fans around the world.”

Charlie’s Angels began as a TV series  about a private detective agency that ran from 1976-1981. The show starred Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith.  After the departure of Fawcett and Jackson came the additions of Cheryl Ladd, Shelley Hack, and Tanya Roberts. After a series of failed television reboots, it went to the bog screen in the McG directed Charlie’s Angels (2000) and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003) starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu. A television reboot in 2011 Annie Ilonzeh, Minka Kelly and Rachael Taylor lasted only a few months before being cancelled.

The reboot the detective agency premise of the original 1976-1981 TV series and 2000 and 2003 to the global scale, global, with the Townsend Agency now a worldwide security and intelligence service that has teams around the world.

The film is scheduled for a Sept. 27, 2019, release.
