Complete Oscar Winner List and Show Recap

Screen Shot 2016-02-29 at 7.18.45 AMLast night’s Academy Awards was a big bucket of O.K. Chris Rock’s monologue was spotty, at best, with a few great lines, peppered in amongst a slew of fumbled deliveries. He had a few nice shots at the Smith family (Will and Jada), which were vicious enough that I wouldn’t be surprised if they pair never make an appearance at the ceremony again. He also made some very valid points about the absurdity of having separate male and female acting categories.  Conservative actress Stacey Dash, who recently came out against separate awards and programming for the black population, came out to poke fun at herself, but it fell so flat that it was embarrassing to watch.

Dave Grohl’s “In Memoriam” performance of the Beatles’ “Blackbird” was great, but, as per every year, a few people were missing, including Abe Vigoda, Tony Burton, Stanley Mann and Joan Leslie. The highlight of the night by a long shot was Louis C.K.’s presentation of the Best Documentary Short Subject,  in which he both praised the category, while at the same time pointed out the self congratulatory nature of the Oscars. I’m already calling Louis C.K. as the 2017 Oscar host (but his disdain for the industry would not fly in that room, despite how well loved he is by his peers).

There weren’t really any surprises in the winners department. Leonardo Dicaprio received a long overdue Oscar, and someone forgot to tell the Academy voters that Sam Smith’s song “The Writing’s on the Wall” from Spectre kind of sucks.  You can check out all of the winners, as well as some video highlights below.
