After years of playing as part of the Avengers ensemble in six movies, Black Widow is finally getting her own film. According to Variety, Marvel is in early development of the solo film, in which Scarlett Johansson would reprise the character.
Jac Schaeffer is reported to have been hired to write the script. Schaeffer is known for her Black List script The Shower, a comedy about an alien invasion during a baby shower, which caught the attention of Anne Hathaway, who attached herself to star in the film. Hathaway also tapped Schaeffer to write the screenplay for her all-female Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake called Nasty Women.
In related news, Hawkeye will be at the grand opening of a Jiffy Lube in Fresno California next month.
Johansson’s Black Widow will next be seen in Avengers: Infinity War, which opens May 4, 2018.
