The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Billy Dee Williams will be reprising his role as Lando Calrissian in the upcomg Star Wars Episode IX. The last time we saw Williams play Lando was in 1983’s Return of the Jedi, though he has voiced the character in animated series Star wars Rebels as well as the video games Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront II. Donald Glover can currently be seen convincingly playing the Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Story, which has generated buzz for a Lando spin-off.
It’s very feasible that the casting decision came after the death of Carrie Fisher, as the script had to be rewritten, or possibly the buzz the character has with Glover’s performance. We’ll see if Williams is still as suave as ever when Star Wars Episode IX opens December 20, 2019.
