‘Avatar 2’ Concept Art

After decades of promises from writer/director James Cameron, we will finally be getting the sequels to the super-mega blockbuster Avatar. Released in 2009, it blew box office records (and expectations of state of the art filmmaking) out of the water, leading to some moviegoers becoming suicidal because they couldn’t visit Pandora for real (seriously, that was a thing). Sure, you can cough up the duckets and head to Pandora- The World of Avatar  in Disney’s Animal Kingdom and ride Flight of Passage for a quick fix (it’s actually pretty worth it), but if you want to see a bit more of Pandora, the official Avatar Twitter account just gave us a peak at some concept art for the upcoming sequel.

Cast members Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, CCH Pounder, and Matt Gerald are all reprising their roles from the original film, with Sigourney Weaver returning in a different role. New cast members include Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Oona Chaplin, David Thewlis, Vin Diesel, and CJ Jones.

The film’s plot is described as “12 years after exploring Pandora and joining the Na’vi, Jake Sully has formed a family with Neytiri as they are wandering across the expansive world of Pandora, meeting new allies in the form of the Metkayina free-diving clan led by Tonowari. Everything changes when the R.D.A. once again invade Pandora to finish what they started.”

The still untitled Avatar 2 opens December 18, 2021.
