Disney has tapped Akiva Schaffer to direct alive-action spinoff of Cinderella titled Stepsisters. The story will focus on the evil stepsisters who abused Cinderella.
Scaffer, best known as part of the comedy musical group and digital short producers The Lonely Island, which also consists of comedian Andy Sandberg and director Jorma Taccone (MacGruber, Popstar Over Your Dead Body), has also directed films such as Hot Rod, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, and the recent Naked Gun Reboot. In addition to their Emmy and Peabody winners for their Saturday Night Live work, tThe Lonely Island also produced the animated series Digman!, PEN15 and the Emmy-winning series I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, and the Sundance Festival sensation Palm Springs.
Dan Gregor and Doug Mand have been brought on to rewrite the Stepsistsrs script by Michael Montemayor.
