We have our first look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in Prime Video‘s upcoming Tomb Raider series.
Lara Croft’s leap from video game console screens tolive action began with 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, starring Angelina Jolie. The film and its 2003 sequel, The Cradle of Life, leaned into glossy pulp adventure, blending globe-trotting archaeology with early-2000s action excess. While critically mixed, Jolie’s charismatic take cemented Lara as a pop-culture icon.
The franchise rebooted in 2018 with Alicia Vikander in Tomb Raider, shifting toward a grittier, more grounded origin story inspired by the modern games, though plans for a direct sequel stalled.
Prime Video’s upcoming live-action series, developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, promises a character-driven approach that could finally give Lara Croft the long-form storytelling depth she’s always deserved, though the casting of Turner as Croft has given some fans reason the doubt.
