Disney Partners with Netflix as Exclusive US TV Distributer

Disney has signed a deal with Netflix to become the “exclusive US pay TV home” distributor of the Disney catalogue. Disney’s current deal with Starz expires in September which is when Netflix will take over the rights. Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos had this to say on the company’s website:

“From September onwards, Netflix will become the exclusive US pay TV home of the latest films from Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar.”

This means Marvel films like Captain America: Civil War and  Lucasfilms titles like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Indiana Jones, plus anything in the Disney and/or Pixar catalogue, like the upcoming Finding Dory, will be exclusive to Netflix once they hit the home entertainment realm. Netflix has already had its fair share of classic  Disney films available, including Pirates of the Caribbean,  Lilo and Stitch, Mulan, and Hercules, not to mention most of the Disney Channel and Disney Junior Channel shows. This is good news for Netflix subscribers who have been concerned about Netflix’s ever shrinking catalogue size.
