On Wednesday, James Gunn announced on social media that the sequel to his hit film” Superman” will be called “Superman: Man of Tomorrow” and is set to be released in theaters on July 9, 2027.
In August, David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, announced Gunn’s return to write and direct the sequel following the character’s comprehensive creative overhaul. This summer, the film grossed over $611 million globally, establishing it as the year’s highest-grossing superhero movie.
Following its 2026 releases, “Man of Tomorrow” will come after the outer space-set “Supergirl” (directed by Craig Gillespie, written by Ana Mogueira and featuring Milly Alcock) and the body horror film “Clayface” (directed by James Watkins, with a script by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini and starring Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie). Due to the expedited timetable, the “Superman” sequel will premiere before Matt Reeves’ “The Batman Part II,” which is set to be released on Oct. 1, 2027.
