“It” Director Andy Muschietti To Direct Re-Imagined H.G. Wells ‘The Time Machine’

Hollywood is taking another crack at the H.G. wells classic novel ‘The Time Machine.’ “It: Chapter 2” Director Andy Muschietti, along with Leonardo Dicaprio’s Appian Way Productions,  will be making the third attempt to bring it to the big screen. The first was George Pal’s 1960 classic, which Pal followed up with a sequel in book form.  Wells’ great-grandson, animator Simon Wells, directed the 2002 version which starred Guy Pearce, Samantha Mumba, Orlando Jones and Jeremy Irons (FUN FACT: Simon Wells went on to work as a storyboard artist on the 2013 animated film “Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return,” which was written by Roger Stanton Baum, the great-grandson of “Wizard of Oz” author L.Frank Baum).

This film is being considered a “re-imagining,”and given the structure and plot of the original book, is almost necessary. Wells’ novel doesn’t necessarily translate into the structure of a film’s screenplay very well, prompting both Pal and Wells to make changes to their adaptations.
