Trumbo Trailer-Bryan Cranston

We’re not crazy about biopics, but the new trailer for the Jay Roach directed “Trumbo” looks like it could be a winner. “Trumbo” follows the successful career of the 1940’s Hollywood screenwriter and explores the devastating results when he and other Hollywood figures are blacklisted from making movies, as a result of their political beliefs and/or activities. The movie stars Bryan Cranston as Dalton Trumbo, the highest paid screenwriter of his day, who refused to testify before the United States government’s House of Un-American Activities, during the height of the highly discriminatory McCarthyism era spawned in the 1940’s. In spite of being blacklisted, Trumbo went on to have a remarkably successful career, as he continued to write under fake names, winning Academy Awards for both Irving Rapper’s “The Brave One” and William Wyler’s “Roman Holiday”. John Goodman plays film producer Frank King, who continued to hire Trumbo to write for scripts while the innocent Trumbo went incognito while blacklisted. We’re exited to Louis C.K. play Trumbo’s neighbor, in what looks to be, possibly a perfect role for him. With a talented ensemble cast including Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Elle Fanning, Diane Lane, Alan Tudyk,  and Michael Stuhlbarg, we might be surprised with this biopic. Bryan Cranston followed up one of the greatest performances in television history with a forgetful role in a mediocre monster movie. Godzilla was a far cry from Breaking Bad, but this looks to be a bit closer to what we expect from him.
