Tracy Tormé, ‘Sliders’ Co-Creator and ‘Star Trek’ Writer, Has Passed Away

Tracy Tormé, best known as the co-creator of the 90s science fiction series “Sliders” has passed away. Tormé, the son of crooner Mel Tormé, died Thursday of complications from diabetes his sister Daisy Tormé (Superman & Lois) and singer brother James Tormé confirmed.

Tormé’s career breakthrough came with his involvement in the iconic science fiction series “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” Serving as a writer and producer during the show’s formative years, he played an instrumental role in shaping its narrative landscape. His visionary scripts, including the beloved episode “The Best of Both Worlds,” showcased his ability to blend intricate storytelling with thought-provoking themes, captivating audiences and critics alike.

Beyond the cosmos of “Star Trek,” Tormé continued to push creative boundaries, demonstrating his versatility across various genres. His co-creation of the cult classic series “Sliders” remains a testament to his penchant for weaving complex narratives that explore alternate realities, captivating audiences with its imaginative premise and compelling characters.

Tormé’s creative ethos wasn’t confined to the confines of television scripts alone. His directorial ventures, such as “Fire in the Sky,” a gripping film based on a real-life alien abduction story, further showcased his dexterity in bringing compelling narratives to life on the big screen. He also provided the treatment for the Francis Lawrence-directed “I Am Legend.”

While Tormé stuck closely with science fiction, he delved into the world of comedy as well, serving as a writer on “Saturday Night” Live during its eighth season (1982-83).
