‘Star Wars’ Films, ‘Avatar’ Sequels Pushed Back; ‘Mulan’ Pushed Indefinitely

Disney has announced that the any proposed “Star Wars” films, as well as the sequels to James Cameron’s “Avatar” have all been pushed back by a year due to COVID-19. The ‘Avatar” follow-up films will premiere every other December, with “Avatar 2” premiering “Avatar 2” Dec. 16, 2022), “Avatar 3” premiering Dec. 20, 2024, “Avatar 4” premiering Dec. 18, 2026) and “Avatar 5” premiering Dec. 22, 2028. The Decembers in between will see new “Star Wars’ films, premiering  Dec. 22, 2023, aDec. 19, 2025, and Dec. 17, 2027.  There is no word on what those films will be, however.

Disney also announced that the already delayed “Mulan” has been removed from its upcoming release schedule. It was originally pushed to Aug. 21 of this year, but it has now been delayed infinitely. The studio has shaken up its entire upcoming release schedule, both Disney and 20th Century Studios, including  Ridley Scott’s historical epic “The Last Duel,” starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, which will open  on Oct. 15, 2021. Oddly, “The New Mutants,” a film that Disney begrudgingly inherited from 20th Century Fox, is still slated for an Aug. 28, 2020 release.
