Roger Moore Dead at 89

Roger Moore, the actor famous for portraying James Bond in seven “007” films between 1973 and 1985, has died at the age of 89 after a battle with cancer.

“We know our own love and admiration will be magnified many times over, across the world, by people who knew him for his films, his television shows and his passionate work for UNICEF which he considered to be his greatest achievement,” his children, Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian, said in a statement posted to Moore’s official Twitter account on Tuesday.

Moore took over the role of Bond from Sean Connery in 1972, and made his first appearance as 007 in Live and Let Die (1973). The longest serving Bond to date, Moore portrayed the spy in six more films. He is also known for playing Simon Templar in the television series The Saint between 1962 and 1969. Moore was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003 for “services to charity, ” and in 2008, the French government appointed Moore a Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

Moore’s last movie role was the 2015 made for TV movie A Prince for Christmas (on which our own Jeff Heller worked as the extras coordinator).
