Robert Rodriguez Set to Direct “Johnny Quest”

Robert Rodriguez is going to direct and co-write the live-action adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon, Johnny Quest for Warner Bros. Rodriguez will write the script along with Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Mask of Zorro).

A film adaption for the show has been rumored for a while now, with Zac Efron originally slated to star. The series centered around the globetrotting adventures of the titular Johnny, and his scientist dad Benton Quest, special agent/bodyguard/pilot Race Bannon, Johnny’s best friend Hadji, and his dog Bandit.

Rodriquez is no stranger to kid adventure films, having written and directed the four Spy Kids films, as well as Shark Boy and Lava Girl. This might be a decent fit for Rodriquez and Warner Bros., provided Rodriquez can make a film that caters to both children and adults. So far, his body of work has skewed heavily in either direction.
