Robert Downey Jr. to Star in ‘Vertigo’ Remake

Robert Downey Jr. might potentially star in a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 psychological thriller “Vertigo,” which Paramount Pictures has preemptively bought. In addition to John Davis and John Fox via Davis Entertainment, the actor is also producing the film alongside his wife Susan Downey through their Team Downey production firm. “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight is now attached to pen the script.

A few Hitchcock movies have become remakes over the years, most notably the 1998 Gus Van Sant “Psycho” remake, which was a shot-for-shot remake of the 1960 film. Stewart and Doris Day starred in Hitchcock’s 1956 remake of his 1934 thriller “The Man Who Knew Too Much.” And many different directors, including Mel Brooks with “High Anxiety,” David Lynch with “Mulholland Drive,” and Brian De Palma with “Obsession” and “Body Double,” have heavily influenced “Vertigo” in particular. But, up until this point, no American studio has made a complete remake.
