Peacock Ends Free Tier for New Users

NBCUniversal has put an end to its free version of the streaming service Peacock as of Monday, January 30. Users must sign up for either the Premium Plus ($9.99/month) without commercials or the Premium plan ($4.99/month) with advertisements in order to access Peacock.

According to an NBCU spokeswoman, the firm is concentrating more on the premium plans as part of their Peacock development strategy. The representative claimed Peacock Premium more accurately reflected the streaming service’s identity and its “unique” experience.

According to NBCU, current subscribers who signed up for Peacock Free will continue to have free access to the service with advertisements.  NBCU is providing qualifying Comcast Cable and Cox customers with free access to Peacock Premium (with advertisements). NBCU president Jeff Shell stated last year that the firm does, however, want to eventually stop that as well.
