Hellboy to Get R Rated Reboot with David Harbour Starring

It’s being reported that Millennium films is in talks with producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin to reboot the Hellboy franchise as a R rated film starring Stranger Things and Suicide Squad star David Harbour.  Hellboy comic creator Mike Mignola, who was heavily involved in the production of Guillermo del Toro’s first two Hellboy films, will be writing the script with Andrew Cosby and Christopher Golden, with Neil Marshall (The Descent) set to direct.

In an interview with Screen Rant last year, Ron Perlman, who starred in the first two installments,  confirmed that a third film was no longer going to happen, after long speculation and unsuccessful attempts by de Toro to get it greenlit:

“We don’t talk about that anymore…Because he’s busy, and I’m busy. Maybe one day he’s going to call and say, ‘Hey, let’s do it.’ But for right now? We’re happy discovering new worlds to conquer.”

While it’s disappointing that they have chosen to part ways with del Toro and Perlman, we have to admit that David Harbour is perfect casting for the film. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone else in Hollywood that would be better suited to take on the role, and follow in Perlman’s red footprints.
