With a majority of the world’s population hanging tight in their houses due to the coronavirus, the film industry is getting hit hard. Any Spring films already in theaters are getting their theatrical release slashed, any movie slated for release in the near future aren’t seeing the light of day (or the dark of the theater rather). While some films are being pushed back, others are going straight to VOD or streaming, or getting an earlier than expected digital release.
“Frozen 2” Disney moved up their Disney+ release of Frozen 2 by months, releasing it domestically on March 15.
“Trolls World Tour” The sequel to the 2017 film starring Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake was supposed to hit theaters on April 30, but instead will hit VOD the same day.
“Birds of Prey” The “Suicide Squad” spinoff was just released on Feb. 4, but kit will will debut on demand on March 24.
“The Hunt” Originally slated for a March 13 release, the release of the horror/thriller was put on hold, and instead hits VOD today.
“The Invisible Man” In theater for less than a month, the update of the Universal Pictures classic is available on VOD today.
“Emma” The new adaptation of the Jane Austen novel opened in limited release Feb. 21 and is currently available for digital download.
“Bloodshot” The Vin Diesel Valiant Comics movie just opened on March 6, but will be available or VOD on March 24.
“The Way Back” The Ben Affleck basketball drama will hit VOD on March 24, just three weeks after its theatrical release.
“Onward” Disney/Pixar’s animated feature quickly moved to digital platforms today, just two weeks after its release, and will make it to Disney+ on April 3.
“The Lovebirds” The Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae Comedy was was originally expected to open April 3 theatrically, but it is now making its way to Netflix instead. No new release date has been set.
