“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” Pics

Warner Bros. has given us a glimpse at the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel, including a first look at Jude Law as a young Albus Dumbldore, the returning Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, and Johnny Depp (who had a cameo in the first film) as Gellert Grindelwald.

Dumbledore and Grindelwald have a (literal) storied history together. Here is a little background from the Harry Potter wiki (it’s a bit spoiler-ish for those not up on their Harry Potter lore):

Gellert Grindelwald (c. 1883 – March, 1998) was considered to be arguably the most dangerous Dark Wizard of all time, A student at Durmstrang Institute, Grindelwald was expelled for twisted, dark experiments and near-fatal attacks on his fellow students. He later fostered a friendship with a young Albus Dumbledore, making plans to find the Deathly Hallows and lead a Wizarding revolution to end the International Statute of Secrecy, creating a benevolent global hierarchical order led by wise and powerful witches and wizards that dominated Muggles. Their partnership fell apart after the two were involved in a three-way duel with Aberforth Dumbledore that resulted in the death of Ariana Dumbledore. Grindelwald left Britain and later stole the Elder Wand from Mykew Gregorovitch, proceeding alone with the revolution he and Dumbledore had planned.

It’s be interesting to see if Law will channel the late Richard Harris (Harry Potter  1 & 2) or Michael Gambon (Harry Potter 3–8) in his portrayal of the famed wizard, or if he will have his own take on the character. We’ll find out when Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald opens on November 16, 2018.
