Ewan McGregor to Star in “Shining” Sequel “Doctor Sleep”

Ewan McGregor has been tapped to portray the grown Danny Torrance in Warner Bros.’ adaptation of the Stephen King novel “Doctor Sleep,” which is the sequel to his horror classic “The Shining.”  The book is described as the following:

Haunted by the inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel, where he spent one horrific childhood year, Dan has been drifting for decades, desperate to shed his father’s legacy of despair, alcoholism, and violence. Finally, he settles in a New Hampshire town, an AA community that sustains him, and a job at a nursing home where his remnant shining power provides the crucial final comfort to the dying. Aided by a prescient cat, he becomes “Doctor Sleep.”

Then Dan meets the evanescent Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dan’s own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra’s soul and survival.

“Doctor Sleep” received overwhelmingly favorable reviews when it was released, and it won the 2013 Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel. King has reportedly given his approval of the casting. Danny Lloyd portrayed Danny in Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 adaptation of “The Shining,” with Courtland Mead taking on the role for the 1997 television miniseries.

McGregor will next be seen portraying another famous character in the titular role of Christopher Robin in the live-action Winnie the Pooh film.
