Complete 2021 Academy Awards Winners List & Highlights

The 93rd annual Academy Awards was held Sunday night at the Los Angeles’ historic Union Station, with only nominees, their guests and presenters in attendance. The stripped down event was hostless again, with Regina King offering a few opening statements before she began presenting awards. One of the other changes made to the ceremony wards was pre-recording all Original Song nominees and moving them to a 90-minute official pre-show, Oscars: Into the Spotlight on ABC. While the performances were noticeably missing from the awards broadcast, it did give the winners more time to give their speeches, resulting in no one being played off.

Over all, it was a pretty subdued event. There weren’t many notable moments to speak of. Nomadland director Chloé Zhao made history as the second woman and the first woman of color to win Best Director, and ‘Minari’ star Yuh-Jung Youn made history as the first Korean actor to win an Oscar.

A well-conceived but poorly-executed game of attendees guessing if a song was Oscar nominated, Oscar winning or neither with Questlove was saved by Glenn Close’s ‘Da Butt’ dance to the song of the same name from Spike Lee’s School Daze.  The In Memoriam video went by at such a breakneck speed that it was almost impossible to actually read the names and professions of those remembered.  Nearly all were given two seconds, with only Sean Connery and Chadwick Boseman being lingered on for a few seconds each.

Here is the full list of winners, as well as some video highlights. More videos can be found on ABC’s YouTube page.
