Ben Affleck has stepped away from directing duties on the upcoming Batman film, although he will still star and produce the project. This is what he had to say in a statement:
“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”
One can only imagine that writing, producing, directing and starring in a franchise film as large as this would be a bit taunting to say the least. Even this early in the process, the pressure was undoubtedly mounting. That said, it would have been nice to see what Affleck could have brought to the film.
It’s being reported that Matt Reeves, the director behind Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and the upcoming War For the Planet of the Apes, is one of Warner Bros. top candidates to take over in the director’s chair.
