Weekend Box Office Report Jan. 22nd-24th

As we near the end of January the Box Office was a little light this weekend.  No surprise there, as January and February tend to be Hollywood’s dumping ground.  Basically it’s where new movies go to die.  There were three new major releases, all panned by critics and audiences alike and none of them managed to break the top three spots.  Dirty Grandpa, The Boy and The 5th Wave, each bringing in around $11,000,000, opened at numbers 4, 5 and 6, respectively.  However last weeks top three movies stayed on top.  The Revenant took the number one spot again (mostly due to Leo’s box office prowess) bringing in another $16,000,000 pushing its total to about $120,000,000.  Star Wars jumped back up to second place with another $14,000,000 million and putting its total to nearly $880,000,000.  Whether it will hit that billion dollar mark before it exits theaters remains to be seen (a re-release in the not so distant future will definitely secure that if it doesn’t manage to do it before its run is up).  Ride Along 2 dropped to number 3 with a $13,000,000 take.
