Warner Bros. has scrapped yet another completed movie. Like Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt, which were both shelved last year, the studio has opted not to release the John Cena film, Coyote Vs. Acme.
The film was directed by Earth To Echo’s Dave Green, while Samy Birch handled the screenplay. Executive producer James Gunn, who presently oversees WB’s DC Studios, contributed to the story. The live-action/animated movie centers on Wile E. Coyote, who decides to employ a billboard lawyer to sue the ACME Corporation after using ACME items to no avail for too long in his relentless hunt for the Roadrunner. Wile E. and his attorney are up against the frightening former boss of the latter, Cena, in this case, but their will to prevail is strengthened by their blossoming relationship.
After receiving the go-ahead at the end of 2020, Coyote Vs. Acme was filmed in 2022. Originally slated for HBO Max, the streaming service, a theatrical release date was subsequently confirmed for July of this year. Barbie took its place on the schedules, though, and it was discreetly withdrawn. The trailer, which apparently tested well, was never released to the public.
The studio will once again be using the film as a tax write off. The news will no doubt frustrate fans looking forward to the film, as it did when both Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt were shelved.
