Warner Bros. Not Happy About Suicide Squad Leak

Suicide Squad was one of a handful of films to have its’ trailer premiere at this years’ San Diego Comic Con. Suicide Squad was also one of a handful of films to have its’ trailer leaked, and the Bothers Warner are not too happy about it. Here’s what they had to say:

Warner Bros. Pictures and our anti-piracy team have worked tirelessly over the last 48 hours to contain the Suicide Squad footage that was pirated from Hall H on Saturday. We have been unable to achieve that goal. Today we will release the same footage that has been illegally circulating on the web, in the form it was created and high quality with which it was intended to be enjoyed. We regret this decision as it was our intention to keep the footage as a unique experience for the Comic Con crowd, but we cannot continue to allow the film to be represented by the poor quality of the pirated footage stolen from our presentation.

How on God’s green Earth can they POSSIBLY be acting as if they did not think something like this would happen? It happened to them before when Batman v Superman was teased. Yes, it is illegal to take a video of these trailers and post them. But guess what, studios? It’s going to happen. The Con is fertile ground for studios to generate buzz for their upcoming projects, and fanboys eat that shit up, whether it’s studio released material or leaked. Starz was smart enough to post the Ash vs Evil Dead trailer within an hour of showing it at Comic Con, because they knew it would happen anyway. So stop getting your knickers in a bunch, studios, and next year be ready to post it online.
