Hollywood’s most likable actor is portrayiong TV’s most likable children’s show host, and we now have a name for this cosmic collision of likability. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood will be the title of the film that will star Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers, host of the long running and multi-award winning Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood will focus on Rogers’ friendship with cynical journalist Tom Junod, who will be portrayed by Matthew Rhys.
Earlier this year we saw two documentaries about Fred Rogers; one well-received theatrical release called “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, and the other a PBS special titled Mister Rogers: It’s You I Like hosted by Michael Keaton, a former stage hand and occasional featured player on Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is scheduled to open October 18, 2019.
