“Shazam!” To Stand Apart From Other DCU Films

If you’re one of the many (many many) people who believe that DC’s Cinematic Universe has been a touch too dark and and moody, then you’re in luck. Shazam! director David F. Sanberg, who is currently out promoting Annabelle: Creation, told the Toronto Sun that the upcoming Captain Marvel film will be a bit lighter than its predecessors:

The big attraction for me with that character is the fact that every kid dreams of being Superman, right? I mean I certainly did, and (Billy Batson) is a kid that gets that chance. He gets to become the superhero. So it’ll be big with superpowers in a way. In terms of what people can expect, I think this will be one of the more fun or lighthearted movies so far in the DC universe. It certainly will be a departure.

Wonder Woman definately made strides to lighter the tone of the DCU films, but they have a long way to go to shake off the moodiness of Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Suicide Squad. Captain Marvel has always had a lighter feel than other DC series, so one would hope the film would follow suit.
