SAG-AFTRA and the studios have tentatively reached an agreement on a new contract that may see Hollywood back up and running within weeks, following 118 days of the actors group going on strike.
The strike will end on November 9 at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time. After a highly eventful day of deadlines and studio financial reports, the 17-member actors guild negotiating committee unanimously decided to present a tentative deal to the SAG-AFTRA board.
The agreement between SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers is the result of the most recent round of fresh negotiations, which started on October 24, and comes less than a month after Writers Guild members overwhelmingly approved their own agreement with that organization.
Should everything proceed according to plan and the board approves the agreement, eligible members of the 160,000-member actors guild will cast their votes in favor of the new contract shortly. Furthermore, since SAG-AFTRA ended the strike just after midnight and before the ratification vote was finished, it is possible that work will resume shortly and that production will resume fast.
