Nolan’s “Dunkirk” to Open On 125 70MM Screens

Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic war film Dunkirk will open on 125 70MM screens across the country, making it the widest 70MM screening in 25 years. Quentin Tarantino’s had a large 70MM release for The Hateful Eight in 2016, but that was screened on  approximately 100 70MM. Dunkirk, which focuses on the evacuation of retreating Allied soldiers from the French beach during World War II, was filmed largely on IMAX’s high res 2D film cameras. Nolan had this to say in a statement:

“I have been a longtime proponent of film – particularly the Imax film format – as a storytelling medium. The immersive quality of the image is second to none, drawing the audience into the action in the most intense way possible.”

Dunkirk, which stars Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, Harry Styles, and Fionn Whitehead, opens July 21st.
