Disney has announced that the long delayed live-action “Mulan” adaptation will be heading to Disney+ on September 4 after recently pulling it from its release schedule. It was announced during a Disney earnings call where it was revealed that the film will have a $29.99 VOD rental fee, on top of the $6.99 Disney+ subscriber fee. Disney CEO Bob Chapek hinted that non-subscribers will be able to order it as a VOD option. “Mulan” was originally supposed to be released on March 27, but then got pushed to July 24th, then delayed again to August 21 before being removed altogether. “Mulan” will still get a theatrical release on September 4 in countries where the streaming service is not available.
With this announcement, it’s being speculated that “Black Widow” may be the next film to get the Disney+ treatment, though Chapek stated that “Mulan” is going to be a “one and done.” However, given how many changes Disney has had to make during the pandemic, it’s definitely possible we’ll see the same VOD treatment given to “Black Widow.”
