M. Night Shyamalan Rebooting Tales From The Crypt

Director and big dissapointment M. Night Shamalangadingdong is bringing Tales from the Crypt back from the dead (there was no other play on words that could have been used there. That’s just a fact.). He’ll be producing a new series for TNT, which will premiere this fall. The series will be based on the EC Comics anthology comic book series, which has been adapted to the big and small screen before. The most notably adaption is the acclaimed HBO show of the same name, which ran from 1989 until 1996. There was also a 1996 non anthology movie starring Dennis Miller, Angie Everhart and Corey Feldman. (No, we’re not making that up).  Shyamalan had this to say about the new show:

“To be part of such a beloved brand like Tales From the Crypt, something I grew up watching, and to also have the chance to push the boundaries of genre television as a whole, is an inspiring opportunity that I can’t wait to dive into.”

Shyamalan has become the David Blaine of filmmakers. At first we were impressed by his illusions, but now it’s just a series of bad ideas. As he likely won’t be writing and/or directing all of the episodes,  there’s hope for the show. Plus you can never really go wrong with a horror anthology series.

The original 1972 Tales from the Crypt anthology film is on YouTube, and it really holds up. You can watch it here:
