Legendary Actor John Hurt Dies at 77

Legendary actor John Hurt has died, aged 77, according to the Mirror UK.

The Elephant Man star, whose career spanned over six decades, had battled with both cancer and an intestinal complaint in recent years.

Survived by his wife of 12 years, Anwen Rees-Myers, he recently starred as a priest in the Oscar nominated biopic of President John F. Kennedy’s widow, Jackie, currently in theaters

His most famous roles include the sci-fi blockbuster Alien, Midnight Express and the adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984.

In recent years, he starred as wandmaker Ollivander in the Harry Potter series and as the War Doctor in a 50th anniversary special Doctor Who. Hurt had critically acclaimed role in 1997 film Love and Death in Long Island starting opposite Jason Priestly.

In October 2015, he was given the all clear after revealing he had been battling pancreatic cancer four months earlier, saying: “I am overjoyed, I am thrilled. It all looks great for the future, it’s fantastic.”
