One thing you are never surprised by in a Kevin Smith Film is an insane amount of pop culture references, Hockey Jerseys and the appearance of his trademark characters Jay and Silent Bob. So to hear Smith talk about bringing those characters into his final film in his Canadian Trilogy (Tusk, Yoga Hosers) Moose Jaws is not a surprise but what he is planning to do comes as a bit of a shock to the View Askew universe: Kill Silent Bob. You read that right. The final film, Moose Jaws, which is still in the writing phase, will complete the trilogy. Moose Jaws, as Smith describes it, is basically Jaws with a Moose set in Canada.
In a recent interview with an Australian news outlet Smith elaborated on the idea:
I was talking to Jay [Mewes] about Moose Jaws and I’m like, ‘I’m thinking about bringing us in as the Captain Quint character’. And he goes, ‘Yeah, but Quint gets killed!’ I was like, ‘One of us has to get eaten’. And he was like, ‘You. Not me’. I was like, ‘Why?’ And he was like, ‘Because I wanna be in other movies!’ Fair enough, dude. So, rather than let [Silent Bob] go out with dignity, he’ll be eaten by a fucking moose.
The question is where and when will this film be set in that timeline? Both Yoga Hosers and Mallrats 2 are due out next, so if there is going to be a Clerks 3 one would imagine it’ll have to be completed and released before Moose Jaws. It would be a pretty big let down to a lot of fans to see a third Clerks film without one of the characters that made the films so popular and launched Smith’s career. Although, it is his Universe and he has gotten pretty bold as of recent with his take on film, so I guess just what happens remains to be seen.
