“Justice League” Reshoots Tweak Cyborg’s Character

When Joss Whedon stepped in to finish directing Justice League for Zack Snyder, it was reported that his workload consisted primarily of reshoots. In an interview with IGN, actor Joe Morton, who plays Cyborg’s dad/”inventor” Dr. Silas Stone, confirmed that he was part of Whedon’s reshoots, and that altering the tone of Cyborg’s character was a focus:

“Well, the stuff that I had to do were just really small little bits and pieces, nothing necessarily having to do with tone. I know that with Ray [Fisher], the young man who plays Victor, there were some adjustments that they made in terms of the tone of that character. I think what I heard was that there was a need from the studio to lighten up the film in a way, that the film felt too dark. I don’t know what that meant in terms of how it actually got translated in terms of the reshoots but that’s what I heard. That’s what I thought some of the reshoots were about.”

Those familiar with DC’s animated efforts know that voice actor Khary Payton has been providing the voice of Cyborg for most of the recent incarnations of the character (including Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go!, Justice League Action and DC Super Hero Girls), and that he provides a fair amount of comic relief (particularly in Teen Titans Go!- booyah!), so this isn’t really surprising. We’ll see just how much Cyborg gets lightened up when Justice League is released November 17, 2017.
