The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal has been cast to portray Frank Castle in the upcoming season of Netflix’s Daredevil.
Marvel’s head of TV, Jeph Loeb, had this to say about the casting:
Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences.
And in a slightly more generic quote, he had this to say about the Punisher coming to Hell’s Kitchen:
Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.
Jon Bernthal wouldn’t have necessarily been everyone’s first choice (many hoped Thomas Jane would get another crack at it), but he will likely be a great fit for the role. Bernthal’s work as Shane on The Walking Dead demonstrated his ability to go dark when needed. and he has the right look for the role. We’ll find out for sure when Daredevil returns in 2016.
