“Jem” Pulled from Theaters After Two Weeks

After the worst opening ever for a major studio release playing in at least 2,000 theaters, Jem and the Holograms was pulled from U.S. theaters after just two weeks. It opened with just $1.3 million from 2,400 screens, which did not get it in the top ten.  It then dropped 71% to just $387,925 from the same number of screens in its second week. To put that in perspective, that’s an average of just $570 per screen, which is only about 68 people per screen. That’s beyond abysmal, especially considering the already low budget of $5 million. It has yet to open in Europe, so there is still some hope Universal will recoup some money. But Europe can read Rotten Tomatoes, so it’s a long shot.
