Despite the critical disappointments of the two G.I. Joe films, Paramount still managed to rake in a fair amount of money from the franchise. So, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is upping the ante by signing a new deal with Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures to create a Hasbro cinematic universe featuring characters from five of Hasbro’s brands, including G.I. Joe, Micronauts, Visionairies, M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) and ROM.
First of all, this is obviously Paramount’s attempt to keep up with Marvel and Warner Bros. in regards to shared cinematic universes. Secondly, while the Joes are a very recognizable brand, the rest are footnotes of 80’s nostalgia at best, so this is definitely a gamble. It also has a potential to be a big sloppy mess. There’s no word if it will be a hard reboot for G.I.Joe, or if any of the cast from the previous films will be on board.
