Sony has released the trailer for “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” the sequel to 2021’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.” The fifth movie in the series (fourth if you don’t count the remake), “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” has the Spengler family returning to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.
The film stars Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Logan Kim, Celeste O’Connor, Carrie Coon and Paul Rudd, alongside Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts and William Atherton reprising their characters from the earlier films, while Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster and Emily Alyn Lind join the cast.
“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” debuted in November 2021 and was directed by Jason Reitman, the son of the original “Ghostbusters” filmmaker Ivan Reitman. When a single mother moved her two kids to a tiny Oklahoman town, they learned about their grandfather’s hidden history and their relationship to the Ghostbusters. Original cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts and Sigourney Weaver returned briefly for that film, though as the trailer for “Frozen Empire” hints, we can expect more than cameos from the original Ghostbusters crew this time around.
