‘Game Of Thrones’ David Benioff & D.B. Weiss Exit New ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the powerhouse pair behind Game of Thrones, will no longer be producing a new Star Wars trilogy after the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga. They cited their production deal with Netflix, which would not allow them to dedicate enough time to Star Wars.

In  a joint statement, the pair also expressed their gratitude for the franchise:

“There are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our Netflix projects. So we are regretfully stepping away.We love Star Wars. When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything.”

Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy seems open to working with the duo in the future:

“David Benioff and Dan Weiss are incredible storytellers. We hope to include them in the journey forward when they are able to step away from their busy schedule to focus on Star Wars.”

Star Wars fans have plenty to look forward to, including Episode IX, the Disney+ series The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan, and rumored films produced by Rian Johnson and Kevin Feige.
