Academy Award-nominated actor Ethan Hawke will be joining the cast of Disney+’s upcoming adaptation of the Marvel comic book Moon Knight. He will be starring opposite Oscar Isaac, who will be portraying the titular hero.
It’s unclear exactly who Hawke will be playing, though the main antagonist in the series is mercenary Raoul Bushman, so that is a safe bet. Moon Knight made his debut in the series Werewolf by Knight in 1975, and while the character never role to Avengers-level of popularity, he has been a fan favorite of comic book fans since his debut. Though Moon Knight is often compared to Batman, though his multiple personality disorder and on again/off again use of superpowers has set him apart.
While a Moon Knight series might be a gamble for Disney as the character is not as well known outside of the comic book community (though neither were the Guardians of the Galaxy, and look how that worked out), Hawke’s involvement should put those worried at ease. Hawke is just coming off of the acclaimed Showtime series The Northman and will soon be seen in the historical Nordic film The Northman with Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman and Willem Dafoe.
